Bucket List Golf Experiences
Bob and I have been enjoying bucket-list golf experiences together for a long time. Our passion is playing on bucket list courses in the U.S. and other countries. We grew up on Long Island, so one of Bob’s first bucket list golf experiences was when he played Beth Page Black golf links in high school. After moving to Kansas, he played Prairie Dunes, with business associates. Prairie Dunes was designed by Perry Maxwell and is one of his favorite courses.
While living in the Midwest, we often planned golf vacations to Arizona. As a result, we had terrific bucket-list golf experiences at Troon North, TPC in Scottsdale, Greyhawk, Boulders, Sedona Golf Resort, and several other beautiful courses throughout Arizona. Desert golf is one of our favorite types of golf. The contrast between the desert terrain and the lush green fairways makes for stunning scenery.
Some of our most memorable golf experiences were in Hawaii on the islands of Maui, Kauai, Lanai, and the big island of Hawaii. We’ll never forget playing the Plantation Course at Kapalua Bay, where they play the invitation-only tournament in January. We played there in March, and views of the ocean with the whales breaching were incredible and distracting at times. The Par five 18th hole is spectacular and so much fun.
At the height of Covid, Bob and I sat down and created our bucket list of golf experiences to plan. Bucket list golf courses are ones that we drool over while watching PGA golf on the weekends. The ones that we have heard so much about from friends or seen in travel brochures. Many of our bucket list courses are from the top 100 golf courses in the world list.
We have been fortunate enough to play several of these courses together over the years, but we continue to dream of having more bucket-list golf experiences as we travel the world next year. We plan to play in Cabo San Lucas, Hawaii, Bali, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, and a few others as we explore the world. In addition, we are considering extending our vacation next year to head back to Ireland after arriving in London.
At the top of our bucket-list golf experiences was Pebble Beach. I was planning our anniversary trip to Pebble Beach and arranged to play all three courses on the Pebble Beach golf resort on the Monterey Peninsula. Walking down the 18th Fairway at Pebble Beach was an incredible feeling. We played two rounds at Pebble Beach, one at Spy Glass, and once at Spanish Bay. I have chronicled these thrilling rounds in the Spyglass Links and Playing Golf at Pebble Beach and Spanish Bay posts. I hope you take time to read and enjoy them.
Playing the best golf courses in southwest Ireland was amazing. A dozen couples from Belmar Golf Club attempted to conquer the best golf courses in southwest Ireland. We came home with a lot fewer golf balls than we left with.
The Spy Glass Links Golf course was a challenging and memorable course. Featuring ocean views, challenging rough, dicey greens, and long uphill Par Fives. It took all our golf skills to get around this course.
The Big Island Of Hawaii is fabulous place for a family vacation getaway. We hope you are inspired by our Hawaiian Island adventures.
Playing the courses at Pebble Beach was an amazing experience. We love to go back and beat our scores one day. We’ll give you a overview of our experiences at both courses.
